English Tutoring

English Tutoring

Why should you consider English tutoring for your child?

When parents come to me for English tutoring, it’s often because this is the point where reading and writing start to feel harder — especially for students with ADHD or autism.

At this age, children are expected to move from learning basic skills to using reading and writing across all subjects. If a student is struggling with focus, organization, comprehension, or confidence, those challenges can quickly affect every area of school.

With one-on-one English tutoring, I’m able to slow things down, break tasks into more manageable pieces, and meet your child where they are.

For reading, I help students build understanding by breaking texts into manageable parts, teaching active reading strategies, and checking for understanding along the way. Many students with ADHD or autism understand more than they can show in a busy classroom — tutoring gives them the space to process and truly engage with what they’re reading.

For writing, I provide clear structure and guidance. We work on organizing ideas, using sentence starters and outlines, and developing paragraphs step by step. I also support executive-function skills like planning, staying on task, and revising their work — areas that are often challenging but essential for success.

Comprehension is a big focus as well. I help students learn how to find and use evidence in the text, understand figurative language, and answer open-ended questions with confidence. Instead of guessing, they learn how to think through and logically present their responses.

Just as importantly, tutoring builds confidence. Many neurodivergent students have experienced repeated frustration with reading and writing. In our sessions, there’s no pressure, no rushing, and no judgment — just consistent support, encouragement, and predictable routines that help students feel safe and capable.

I also work to reinforce strategies your child is already using at school, including accommodations from an IEP or 504 plan, so tutoring feels supportive rather than overwhelming.

My goal isn’t just better grades — it’s helping your child become a more confident reader, clearer writer, and more independent learner who understands their own strengths.
